We are currently working with a welcoming and supportive specialist secondary school in Dagenham that is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Science Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to join their team immediately. This rewarding full-time role is ideal for an experienced Teaching Assistant or HLTA who is passionate about supporting students with additional needs and helping them access Science in an engaging and meaningful way.

The school supports students with a range of needs including Autism (ASC), ADHD, SEMH, Moderate Learning Difficulties (MLD), and complex communication needs, and is looking for someone who can bring patience, adaptability, and a positive attitude to the classroom.

Role Overview:

  • Support the delivery of Science lessons across Key Stages 3 and 4 within a specialist secondary setting
  • Lead small group interventions and provide targeted one-to-one support for students with additional learning needs
  • Assist teachers with lesson preparation, practical activities, classroom organisation, and differentiated learning materials
  • Promote student engagement, independence, and confidence within Science lessons
  • Support students with emotional regulation, behaviour management, and communication needs using calm and consistent approaches
  • Deliver planned learning activities under teacher direction and support pupils in accessing the curriculum at an appropriate level
  • Work collaboratively with teaching staff, SEN professionals, and pastoral teams to support student progress and wellbeing
  • Help maintain a safe, structured, and inclusive learning environment

About You:

  • Previous experience working with young people with SEN, ideally within a secondary or specialist school setting
  • Experience supporting students with Autism, ADHD, SEMH, PMLD, or learning difficulties
  • Strong behaviour management and de-escalation skills
  • Confident supporting Science lessons and practical classroom activities
  • HLTA qualification or substantial classroom support experience preferred
  • Patient, proactive, and able to build positive relationships with students and staff
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply)
