Role: 3.5T Delivery Driver
Location: Working out of Horley / Salfords
Delivery Area: Southeast / London
Salary: Up to £31,000 OTE
Start Date: Immediate


Overview

The 3.5T Multi Drop Delivery Driver is responsible for managing tight schedules and multiple delivery stops, balancing timely delivery with safety and compliance. This role directly contributes to customer satisfaction and overall company efficiency.

 

Key Responsibilities

Driving & Delivering

  • Operate a 3.5-ton vehicle to deliver goods across a scheduled route.

Loading & Unloading

  • Load the vehicle at the warehouse.
  • Unload items at each delivery point.
  • Ensure all delivered items are correct and accounted for.

Route Management

  • Plan and follow the most efficient delivery routes.
  • Adjust routes as needed for traffic or unforeseen circumstances.

Customer Service

  • Interact professionally with customers.
  • Handle delivery documentation.
  • Address inquiries or issues related to deliveries.

Vehicle Maintenance

  • Carry out routine daily checks.
  • Report any defects or issues.
  • Keep the vehicle clean and in good working condition.

Compliance

  • Follow all road safety regulations.
  • Adhere to company policies and health & safety standards.

 

Person Specification

Essential

  • Full UK Driving Licence (Category B) with a clean record.

  • Route Planning & Navigation skills; able to adjust when required.

  • Time Management for completing multiple drops under tight deadlines.

  • Strong Customer Service skills: professional, polite, helpful.

  • Attention to Detail in delivery handling and paperwork accuracy.

  • Clear Communication of delays, issues, or discrepancies.

  • Basic Vehicle Checks: daily inspections and reporting defects.

  • Health & Safety Awareness, including safe manual handling.

  • Environmental Awareness through fuel-efficient driving and waste minimisation.

  • High Reliability & Independence, able to work with minimal supervision.

  • Proven experience driving a 3.5T vehicle (or similar) in a commercial setting.

  • Previous multi-drop delivery experience with high volumes and tight schedules.

  • Experience completing delivery paperwork or using digital delivery systems.

  • Ability to work independently while managing routes and time effectively.

  • Competent in safe loading/unloading and manual handling.

 

Desirable

  • Previous multi-drop delivery experience in a fast-paced environment.

  • Experience using handheld delivery devices, scanners, or route planning tools.

  • Local area knowledge to support efficient route planning.

  • Basic mechanical knowledge to identify minor vehicle issues.

  • Flexible working approach with willingness to vary shifts or assist other areas.

  • Ability to handle customer complaints confidently on the spot.

  • Understanding of transport legislation (driving hours, load limits, compliance).

  • Strong teamwork skills for liaising with warehouse and transport staff.

  • FORS knowledge (advantageous).

  • Experience delivering in urban or high-density areas.

  • Background in customer-facing roles with strong service standards.

  • Familiarity with route optimisation apps, telematics, or handheld scanners.

  • Understanding of transport compliance, e.g., tachograph rules (even if not required for 3.5T).

  • Previous experience in logistics, construction supply, retail delivery, or trade distribution.
