Bandsaw Operator / Metal Cutting Operative

Hours: 07:00 – 17:00
Days: Monday to Friday
Pay: £13.50 – £14.00 per hour, depending on experience

We are currently recruiting for an experienced Bandsaw Operator / Metal Cutting Operative to join a busy industrial operation based on Medway City Estate in Rochester.

This is a temp-to-perm opportunity, offering the potential for a permanent position for the right candidate following a successful temporary period.

The role is hands-on and involves working with metal and steel, using a bandsaw to accurately cut metal poles and materials to the required sizes.

The successful candidate will have previous experience operating a bandsaw and cutting metal, along with the ability to work accurately from measurements and specifications.

The Role

Your main responsibility will be accurately cutting metal poles and other materials to the required lengths.

Duties will include:

• Operating a bandsaw to cut metal and steel materials
• Cutting metal poles accurately to the required sizes
• Measuring materials using a tape measure
• Reading measurements clearly and accurately
• Working from measurements and job requirements to ensure materials are cut correctly
• Handling and positioning metal materials ready for cutting
• Checking measurements before and after cutting
• Ensuring cuts are accurate and meet the required specifications
• Loading and positioning materials safely on the bandsaw
• Carrying out basic equipment checks and reporting any issues
• Maintaining a clean, tidy and safe working area
• Following all company health & safety procedures
• Working efficiently to meet daily production requirements
• Assisting with other general workshop duties when required

This is a practical and physical role, so candidates should be comfortable handling metal materials throughout the working day.

Essential Experience

Previous bandsaw experience is essential.

To be considered, you must have experience:

• Operating a bandsaw
• Cutting metal and/or steel
• Working with metal materials
• Accurately cutting materials to specified lengths
• Reading a tape measure confidently and accurately
• Working with numbers and measurements
• Working safely around machinery

Previous experience within a metalworking, fabrication, engineering, manufacturing or workshop environment would be advantageous.

This is not a role suitable for someone with no previous bandsaw experience.

Reliability is Essential

We are looking for someone with a proven track record of reliability and good attendance.

The successful candidate will need to be:

• Reliable and punctual
• Consistent with attendance
• Able to commit to Monday–Friday working
• Hardworking and willing to get involved
• Able to work independently when required
• Comfortable following instructions and working to deadlines
• Safety-conscious and responsible

Reliability is particularly important as this is a temp-to-perm opportunity, with the intention of offering a permanent position to the right person.

Own Transport Required

Candidates must have their own car and be able to drive to the site.

The position is based on Medway City Estate in Rochester, and candidates will need to be able to reliably travel to and from work for the 07:00 start time.
