ASSEMBLY OPERATOR

Location: Ilminster, Somerset
Salary: £27,000 – £32,000 per annum
Hours:

  • Monday – Thursday: 08:00 – 16:30
  • Friday: 08:00 – 15:00

Reporting to: Manufacturing Supervisor / Team Leader


THE ROLE

We are looking for an experienced Assembly Operator to join a specialist manufacturing team in Ilminster.

The successful candidate will be responsible for setting up and operating machinery, processes and equipment to safely manufacture high-precision optical products throughout the production process.

You will work as part of a small team assembling periscopes and opto-mechanical sights for armoured vehicles, with a strong focus on quality, precision and following established manufacturing procedures.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Set up and operate production equipment in accordance with manufacturing practices and standard operating procedures.
  • Assemble periscopes
  • Mix adhesives and prepare metal surfaces for optics bonding.
  • Bond optical surfaces for substrates and laser protection filters.
  • Set optical sub-assemblies to the correct orientation.
  • Inspect optics and metalwork against required specifications.
  • Carry out AQL inspections on selected parts.
  • Follow the MRB process for non-conforming parts.
  • Complete history cards and all required production documentation.
  • Pack finished products ready for the next stage or despatch.
  • Clean production equipment and work areas.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives to improve efficiency and productivity.
  • Work collaboratively within a small team and provide assistance and cover when required.
  • Take responsibility for department/cell quality, output, safety and improvement targets.
  • Follow all Health & Safety, Quality and Environmental procedures.


ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Previous working experience relevant to the requirements of the role.
  • Experience working within a manufacturing, production or assembly environment.
  • Good attention to detail and a commitment to quality.
  • Ability to follow detailed written procedures and instructions.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a small team.
  • A practical and methodical approach to work.
