About the Opportunity

Interaction Recruitment is looking for a reliable, practical and hardworking Facilities Assistant to join a busy team in Taunton.

This is a varied, hands-on role where you will help keep public facilities clean, safe and well maintained. You will be responsible for cleaning and basic maintenance, carrying out routine checks and supporting local events.

What You'll Be Doing

• Cleaning and maintaining public toilets, pavilions and other facilities.
• Carrying out routine inspections and minor maintenance repairs.
• Keeping buildings and surrounding areas clean, tidy and presentable.
• Responding to graffiti, vandalism, weeds, fly-posting and general untidiness.
• Completing routine safety and maintenance checks, including water temperatures and emergency lighting.
• Removing litter and dealing with fly-tipping where safe and appropriate.
• Helping set up equipment and furniture for events and activities.
• Supporting outdoor events with litter picking and assisting with road closures when required.
• Maintaining tools, equipment and vehicles and completing daily vehicle checks.
• Recording completed work and reporting issues that require further attention.
• Following health and safety procedures and using PPE correctly.

What We're Looking For

We're keen to hear from candidates who have:

• Previous cleaning experience.
• A good understanding of health and safety and COSHH.
• Basic maintenance skills and experience using hand or power tools.
• Good communication skills and a helpful, professional attitude.
• Basic IT skills, including Outlook or Microsoft Teams.
• The ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• A flexible approach to working hours.
• The physical ability to carry out manual duties and work outdoors.

A full UK driving licence is required.

Experience using cleaning machinery, pressure washers or similar equipment would be an advantage. First Aid and Chapter 8 road closure training would also be beneficial, although relevant training may be available.

Pay Rates

• Basic rate: £13.30 per hour
• Weekend rate: £19.95 per hour
• Bank Holiday rate: £26.60 per hour

The role offers 37 hours per week, with regular evening and weekend working. Flexibility is essential to support the operation of facilities and local events.
