Location: Harlow, Essex
Salary: £42,000 – £65,000 per annum, depending on experience

The Opportunity

I am currently working with an established independent HGV workshop in Harlow who are looking to recruit an experienced HGV Technician to join their growing workshop team.

This is a hands-on position suited to a technician with strong mechanical and diagnostic experience who takes pride in their workmanship and enjoys working on a varied range of commercial vehicles.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out servicing, inspections and preventative maintenance on HGVs and commercial vehicles.
  • Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical and hydraulic faults.
  • Carry out fault finding using diagnostic equipment, including TEXA and Jaltest.
  • Complete MOT preparation and rectification work.
  • Investigate and repair vehicle defects.
  • Carry out repairs safely and to a high standard.
  • Complete service sheets, job cards and vehicle documentation accurately.
  • Work both independently and as part of a workshop team.
  • Maintain a clean, safe and professional working environment.

About You

The successful candidate will ideally have:

  • Previous experience working as an HGV Technician / HGV Mechanic.
  • Strong mechanical and diagnostic skills.
  • Good knowledge of HGVs and commercial vehicles.
  • Experience with servicing, inspections and repairs.
  • Experience using diagnostic equipment such as TEXA or Jaltest.
  • A logical approach to fault finding.
  • Good attention to detail and pride in workmanship.
  • A reliable, professional and safety-conscious approach.
  • NVQ Level 3, City & Guilds or equivalent qualification is desirable but not essential.
  • Class 1 or Class 2 licence is advantageous but not essential.

Working Hours

The role operates on a fortnightly shift pattern:

Week 1: Monday–Friday, 7:00am–3:00pm

Week 2: Monday–Friday, 12:00pm–8:00pm
Plus: Saturday, 7:00am–12:00pm

A £60 late-shift bonus is paid during the late-shift week.

  • £42,000 – £65,000 basic salary, depending on experience.
