CNC Machinist 

A leading provider of aircraft product support services to the aviation industry, with a strong focus on quality, compliance, and traceability.
This role sits within a specialist composites division supporting aerospace and defence programmes through the engineering, manufacture, and repair of composite and metallic components.

Role Summary

The CNC Machinist will be responsible for setting and operating CNC milling machines (primarily 5-axis), alongside supporting manual machining activities. The role involves manufacturing and refurbishing tooling and producing components to tight tolerances within an aerospace-quality, fully traceable environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Set and operate CNC 3 to 5-axis milling machines to manufacture tooling, fixtures, and composite parts in line with engineering drawings and specifications.
  • Support manual machining operations including milling, turning, and drilling for tooling manufacture and refurbishment.
  • Interpret engineering drawings, including geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T).
  • Select appropriate tooling, set machine offsets and datums, and prove out new jobs.
  • Optimise machining processes within defined parameters to achieve efficiency and quality targets.
  • Conduct first-off and in-process inspections using precision measuring equipment.
  • Accurately complete all required documentation, ensuring full traceability in line with aerospace standards.
  • Identify and escalate quality issues, supporting non-conformance reporting (NCR) and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Maintain high standards of housekeeping, safety, and PPE compliance at all times.

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Proven experience setting and operating CNC milling machines (3 to 5-axis).
  • Competence in manual machining (manual mills and lathes).
  • Familiarity with CNC control systems (Fanuc and/or Heidenhain preferred).
  • Strong understanding of working in a regulated, quality-controlled environment with full documentation and traceability.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and work to tight tolerances.
  • Reliable, detail-oriented, and able to meet production targets under supervision.

Desirable Skills & Experience

  • Experience within aerospace, composites, defence, or similarly regulated industries.
  • Previous exposure to 5-axis machining (training can be provided for the right candidate).

Salary & Benefits

  • Pay:  £18.00 per hour Plus 
  • Overtime: Paid at 1.5x hourly rate
  • Holiday: 20 days plus bank holidays
