Drainage & Utility Engineer
Salary: £29,000–£33,000 per annum (Average Earnings £37,000-£42,000) Location: Gateshead, Tyne and Wear Hours: Monday–Friday | 40 hours per week | Day Shift with Flexible Start & Finish Times Overtime: 1.5x after 40 hours Callout Rota: 1 in 5 paid at £135–£150 per week + callout bonus Job Type: Full Time, Permanent
A well‑established engineering services company is seeking a Drainage Operative to support routine and reactive drainage works across industrial and commercial sites. This position suits a hands-on individual with experience in drainage, utilities, construction, or general labouring who is looking to progress within a specialist engineering environment.

Key Responsibilities
- Assist in the cleaning, maintenance, and unblocking of drainage systems using jetting and vacuum equipment.
- Support JetVac Drivers, Engineers, and CCTV Survey Teams on planned and emergency jobs.
- Carry out general labouring duties including setting up equipment, preparing work areas, and cleaning down machinery.
- Conduct basic site checks, observations, and risk assessments with supervision.
- Accurately record job details via PDA and follow all reporting processes.
- Work safely in accordance with company procedures, environmental guidelines, and site rules.
What We’re Looking For
- Previous experience within drainage, utilities, construction, groundworks, or labouring.
- Good understanding of safe working practices and manual handling.
- Willingness to learn specialised drainage equipment (Jetting, Vacuum Units, CCTV systems).
- Strong work ethic with the ability to work outdoors in varied conditions.
- Flexible approach with ability to support call-out rota.
- Full UK driving licence preferred.
- Confined Space, CSCS, or High-Pressure Water Jetting certificates are beneficial, but not essential—full training provided.
