Position: 3D & 2D AutoCAD™ CAD Design Engineer

About the Role

Our Client is an established engineering fabrication company specializing in the bespoke design, manufacturing, and installation of architectural structures. Serving a range of sectors including the UK passenger transport industry and commercial clients, the company also manufactures street furniture, working predominantly with stainless steel, mild steel, and aluminium materials.

We are seeking a talented CAD Designer to join our team, with a strong background in sheet metal fabrication. You will be responsible for creating both 2D and 3D design drawings of bespoke architectural structures. These structures will be fabricated from materials such as stainless steel, mild steel, and aluminium, tailored to meet the specific needs of our clients.

The ideal candidate will be highly proficient in AutoCAD and AutoCAD Inventor 3D, with extensive experience in producing production drawings for metal fabrication. You should also have a solid understanding of construction methods, structural requirements, and be comfortable conducting site surveys to gather essential data for your designs.

Key Responsibilities:

• Develop 2D and 3D CAD designs for architectural structures, ensuring the designs meet client specifications and structural requirements.

• Collaborate closely with clients including Network Rail, train operating companies, architectural firms, and tier 1 construction companies to refine designs.

• Once designs are approved by the client, produce 2D production drawings and oversee the transition of designs to the fabrication and installation phases.

• Conduct site surveys to gather data and inform design decisions.

• Manage your own projects, from initial concept through to production, ensuring timelines and specifications are met.

• Liaise effectively with internal teams, ensuring smooth communication throughout the project lifecycle.

What We’re Looking For:

• A minimum of 3 years’ experience in the metal fabrication industry.

• Proficiency in AutoCAD (2D) and AutoCAD Inventor (3D) for design and drafting.

• Experience creating fabrication drawings and an understanding of metal fabrication processes.

• A strong understanding of construction methods, structural integrity, and design requirements.

• Excellent communication skills and the ability to work well within a team.

• Strong project management capabilities, with the ability to handle multiple projects and meet deadlines.

• Comfortable working with clients to ensure design approval and technical accuracy at all stages.
