Overview

Interaction Recruitment are proud to be working in partnership with our client based in Baston, who are seeking an experienced and motivated Logistics Planner to join their busy Logistics team.

This is a fantastic opportunity for an individual with a strong background in logistics planning to play a key role in ensuring deliveries are efficiently scheduled and executed. The successful candidate will focus on maximising profitability, maintaining excellent customer service standards, and ensuring goods reach customers on or before the promised delivery date.


Job Purpose

The Logistics Planner will be responsible for planning all deliveries in a time-efficient and cost-effective manner, using both company transport and third-party hauliers. The role requires strong organisational skills, commercial awareness, and the ability to manage multiple priorities. Excellent communication and attention to detail are key, ensuring smooth dispatch operations and a first-class customer experience.


Key Responsibilities

  • Efficiently plan daily deliveries (including wide loads) for all customer orders using company transport and third-party hauliers.
  • Design achievable delivery routes in line with driver hours regulations.
  • Obtain quotations from third-party hauliers that deliver best value while staying within departmental and order budgets.
  • Raise purchase orders for third-party transport in accordance with company policies and ensure correct approval processes are followed.
  • Ensure all deliveries are planned to meet or exceed the customer’s promised date.
  • Manage last-minute route amendments due to cancellations, urgent orders, or unforeseen circumstances.
  • Plan wide load routes in line with best practice, ensuring all required notices are submitted in good time.
  • Complete all export documentation accurately and liaise with hauliers to ensure compliance and smooth execution.
  • Maintain regular contact with customers to confirm delivery schedules, ensuring bookings are made at least 48 hours prior to delivery.
  • Keep the contact management system updated with all relevant delivery information.
  • Liaise with the Customer Care department to resolve delivery issues efficiently.
  • Prepare and distribute drivers’ paperwork ahead of scheduled deliveries.
  • Organise and schedule customer collections within agreed timeframes.
  • Work collaboratively with Sales and Operations teams to ensure delivery commitments are met.
  • Take responsibility for purchase orders and departmental invoice management.
  • Respond promptly to all emails and telephone queries.

Skills & Experience Required

  • Proven experience in a logistics planning or transport coordination role (essential).
  • Strong commercial awareness and understanding of financial implications of transport decisions.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to thrive in a busy environment and work effectively under pressure.
  • Strong team player with excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Proficient IT user, confident with Microsoft Office and logistics software systems.
  • Exceptional organisational and time management abilities.
  • Knowledge of Health & Safety procedures and Driver Hours Regulations.

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

  • All delivery routes planned and confirmed with customers at least 48 hours in advance.
  • Delivery OTIF (On Time In Full) performance of 97% or above.
  • Achievement of departmental delivery and efficiency targets.

Additional Requirements

  • Flexibility to work additional hours during peak seasonal demand (Spring/Summer).
  • The company may require additional or alternative duties to be undertaken as needed (e.g. sickness or holiday cover).
  • Hours may vary depending on business needs.
