Maintenance Engineer – Mechanically Biased

£20.48 per hour + 55p per hour shift allowance
Permanent Position | Rotating Shifts | Overtime Available

We’re looking for a hands-on, mechanically biased Maintenance Engineer to join an established manufacturing operation in Skelmersdale and take over from a long-serving engineer due to retirement.

This is a great opportunity for an experienced engineer who enjoys fault finding, problem-solving and keeping production machinery running efficiently. You’ll be responsible for planned and reactive maintenance, breakdown repairs and machinery improvements across a range of industrial production equipment.

The Role

  • Carry out planned preventative maintenance and reactive repairs.

  • Diagnose mechanical and electrical faults, responding quickly to machinery breakdowns.

  • Minimise downtime by identifying faults and implementing effective, practical solutions.

  • Carry out machine modifications and improvements to enhance performance and reliability.

  • Maintain a variety of equipment, including conveyors and specialist production machinery.

  • Work alongside production teams to ensure machinery operates safely and efficiently.

  • Adapt to challenging situations and use your initiative to get equipment back up and running.

About You

  • Previous experience in a manufacturing maintenance role is essential.

  • Strong mechanical maintenance skills, with the ability to fault-find across mechanical and electrical systems.

  • Electrically biased or multi-skilled engineers will also be considered.

  • NVQ Level 3 in Engineering or an equivalent qualification would be advantageous.

  • Experience working in a fast-paced production environment.

  • Knowledge of milling machines and lathes would be beneficial.

  • Print industry experience would be an advantage, but is not essential.

  • A practical, resourceful approach to fault finding, repairs and problem-solving.

Full training will be provided on the site-specific machinery, making this an excellent opportunity for an engineer looking to develop their knowledge and skills.

Shift Pattern

  • Rotating weekly shifts: 06:00–14:00 and 14:00–22:00.

  • Monday to Friday.

  • Initially working day shifts before shadowing an experienced engineer and progressing onto the rotating shift pattern independently.

Salary & Benefits

  • £20.48 per hour basic rate.

  • 55p per hour shift allowance.

  • Approximately £41,000 per annum, depending on hours and shift allowance.

  • Overtime paid at time and a half Monday to Saturday.

  • Double time paid on Sundays.

  • Permanent employment.

  • Full training on site-specific equipment.

  • Opportunity to develop your engineering skills within a specialist manufacturing environment.

If you’re a mechanically minded maintenance engineer who enjoys getting stuck into breakdowns, finding solutions and keeping production moving, we’d like to hear from you.
