Hours: 6.30 to 16.30 Monday to Thursday 

12.30 to 22.30 Monday to Thursday

Job Description

The Press Operator is responsible for operating and maintaining mechanical or hydraulic presses to shape, cut, or assemble metal or other materials in accordance with production specifications. The role requires close attention to detail to ensure high-quality output and adherence to health and safety regulations. The operator works within an engineering and manufacturing environment and contributes to meeting production targets while maintaining equipment functionality and safety standards.

Job Duties

  • Set up and adjust press machines according to job specifications, including fitting dies, tools and materials.
  • Operate presses to shape, cut, or assemble materials, ensuring consistent quality and accuracy.
  • Monitor the press during operation to detect faults or defects and take corrective actions as necessary.
  • Conduct routine maintenance and cleaning of the press equipment to ensure safe and efficient operation.
  • Inspect finished products against quality standards and report any deviations to the relevant department.
  • Maintain accurate production records, including quantities produced and any issues encountered.
  • Adhere strictly to health and safety policies and procedures at all times.
  • Collaborate with team members and supervisors to meet production schedules and targets.
  • Assist in training new operators or apprentices as required.

Required Qualifications

  • Basic literacy and numeracy skills to understand instructions and complete records.
  • Health and safety awareness relevant to press operation and manufacturing environments.
  • The environment may be noisy and require adherence to hearing protection procedures.
