Interaction Recruitment are delighted to be supporting a growing and innovative engineering business in Milton Keynes in their search for a Mechanical Engineering Supervisor.

This is an exciting opportunity to join a specialist manufacturer of bespoke industrial X-ray systems during a significant period of growth. Operating from a brand-new state-of-the-art facility, our client designs and builds high-quality inspection solutions used across a wide range of industries.

The role would suit an experienced Mechanical Engineering Supervisor, Team Leader or Senior Mechanical Engineer looking to progress into a position where they can combine hands-on engineering with leadership responsibilities and have a genuine influence on manufacturing processes and continuous improvement initiatives.

The Role

Reporting to the Production Manager, you will take responsibility for a small but growing engineering team while remaining actively involved in the build, installation and maintenance of bespoke X-ray cabinet systems.

This is a varied role offering a mixture of workshop-based manufacturing, team leadership, project coordination and occasional customer site visits for installation and commissioning work.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervising and supporting a small engineering team, providing daily leadership and technical guidance.
  • Hands-on mechanical assembly and build of bespoke machinery and equipment.
  • Ensuring projects are delivered on time, within specification and to the highest quality standards.
  • Promoting a strong health & safety culture throughout the department.
  • Managing installation and service activities from planning through to completion.
  • Identifying and implementing continuous improvement and Lean manufacturing initiatives.
  • Mentoring and developing junior engineers.
  • Coordinating contractors and subcontractors, ensuring compliance with Permit to Work systems and RAMS.
  • Building strong relationships with customers, suppliers and internal departments.
  • Monitoring, sourcing and ordering spare parts as required.

The Candidate

Essential Requirements

  • Mechanical Engineering qualification (NVQ Level 3 or above).
  • Previous experience in a supervisory, team leader or senior engineering role.
  • Strong hands-on mechanical assembly and manufacturing experience.
  • Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities.
  • Knowledge of Health & Safety best practice within a manufacturing environment.
  • Full UK Driving Licence.
  • Due to customer security requirements, applicants must be UK nationals with no criminal record.

Desirable Skills

  • Installation project management experience.
  • IOSH certification.
  • ILM Level 3 qualification.
  • Lean Manufacturing or Continuous Improvement experience.
  • Knowledge of Permit to Work systems, RAMS and risk assessments.
  • Experience working with bespoke machinery, automation equipment or specialist engineering systems.
