Job Description

We are currently recruiting for Refuse Loaders to work for South Cambridgeshire District Council on a temporary-to-permanent basis.

As a Refuse Loader, you will work as part of a collection crew, helping to collect household waste and recycling across the local area.

This is a physically demanding role. You can expect to walk between 20,000 and 30,000 steps per day and regularly lift and move bins, some of which can be heavy.

Key Responsibilities

  • Loading and emptying household waste and recycling bins.
  • Working as part of a team to complete daily collection routes.
  • Walking long distances throughout the working day.
  • Lifting and moving heavy bins safely.
  • Working outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Following health and safety procedures at all times.
  • Taking care when working around the refuse collection vehicle and other road users.
  • Completing collection routes safely and efficiently.

The working hours are 6:00am – 3:45pm, Tuesday to Friday. You will be paid for the full scheduled working day, although crews will typically finish earlier once their route has been completed.

About You

We are looking for candidates who are:

  • Physically fit and comfortable with manual work.
  • Able to walk 20,000–30,000 steps per day.
  • Comfortable lifting and moving heavy bins.
  • Reliable, punctual and hardworking.
  • Comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Health and safety conscious.
  • Able to work well as part of a team.
  • Able to reliably travel to work for a 6:00am start.

If you are hardworking, reliable and looking for a physically active role with a four-day working week and the opportunity to become permanent, we would love to hear from you.
