Location: Devizes

Interaction Recruitment is recruiting on behalf of our client, a rapidly growing UK provider of materials handling solutions, powered access, cleaning equipment and associated products.

We are looking for an experienced Area Sales Manager to take responsibility for the growth and development of the company's Southwest sales territory.

This is an excellent opportunity for a commercially driven sales professional with a strong background in the forklift and materials handling industry, who enjoys winning new business while developing long-standing customer relationships.

The Role

Reporting to the National Hire & Sales Manager, you will be responsible for managing an established customer portfolio while placing a strong emphasis on new business development and territory growth.

You will manage the complete sales process, from identifying and prospecting new opportunities through to customer visits, presentations, equipment demonstrations, quotations, negotiation and ultimately closing the sale.

Taking a consultative approach, you will work with customers at all levels, from operational teams through to senior management and board level, understanding their requirements and identifying opportunities to provide the right solutions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Identify and develop new business opportunities across the Southwest
  • Visit prospective customers to generate new sales
  • Manage and develop existing customer accounts
  • Identify opportunities for upselling and additional business
  • Prepare and present customer quotations
  • Negotiate pricing and commercial terms and close sales
  • Conduct customer presentations and equipment demonstrations
  • Research market conditions, competitors and potential new markets
  • Maintain accurate sales activity and customer information on the CRM
  • Analyse CRM data to identify further sales opportunities
  • Effectively plan and manage your territory, diary and customer visits
  • Build strong, long-term relationships with customers

About You

To be considered for this role, you will need:

  • A minimum of 5 years' sales experience within the materials handling/forklift industry
  • A proven track record in new business development
  • Strong account management and customer development skills
  • Excellent communication, presentation and negotiation abilities
  • Experience with solution-based/consultative sales
  • The confidence to demonstrate equipment and handle customer objections
  • Strong commercial awareness and understanding of market and competitor activity
  • Excellent relationship-building skills
  • Good numerical and IT skills, including Microsoft Office, email and CRM systems
  • Excellent organisation, territory planning and time management skills
  • A self-motivated, energetic and target-driven approach
