HGV Class 1 Night Shunter Crawley

Location: Crawley, West Sussex
Pay: Competitive PAYE rate, with enhanced rates for night hours and overtime
Shift: Night shift
Contract: Ongoing / Temp-to-Perm opportunity

We are currently recruiting on behalf of my client, a well-established logistics operation in the Crawley area, who are looking to add experienced HGV Class 1 Night Shunters to their transport team.

This is a great opportunity for an experienced Class 1 driver who prefers working within a busy depot environment rather than spending the majority of their shift out on the road.

The Role

Working predominantly within the site and yard, your main responsibility will be the safe and efficient movement of vehicles and trailers around the depot.

Your duties will include:

• Shunting trailers and HGVs between designated areas of the site
• Positioning vehicles ready for loading, unloading and onward movement
• Carrying out appropriate vehicle and trailer checks
• Keeping movements organised and ensuring the yard operates efficiently
• Completing relevant paperwork and digital records accurately
• Working closely with the wider transport and warehouse teams
• Following site procedures and maintaining high standards of health and safety
• Reporting any vehicle, trailer or operational issues promptly

The role is suited to someone who is confident manoeuvring articulated vehicles in a busy yard and can work independently while maintaining a strong focus on safety.

Requirements

To be considered for the position, you will need:

• A valid HGV Class 1 / Category C+E licence
• Relevant Class 1 driving experience
• A valid Driver CPC / DCPC
• A valid Digital Tachograph Card
• Good understanding of drivers' hours and Working Time Regulations
• A safe and responsible approach to vehicle movements
• Good communication skills
• The ability to work night shifts reliably
• A clean, professional and safety-conscious approach to work

Previous shunting or yard experience would be advantageous, although experienced Class 1 drivers with strong reversing and manoeuvring skills will also be considered.
