QHSE Manager
Location: Skelmersdale Salary: £55,000–£60,000 per annum Reporting to: Operations Director
We are delighted to be working with a successful and forward-thinking business in Skelmersdale that is looking to appoint an experienced QHSE Manager to lead and continually improve its Quality, Health, Safety, Environmental and Sustainability functions.
This is a key role within the organisation, with responsibility for the Company's Integrated Management System (IMS) and ensuring continued compliance with relevant legislation, industry standards, certifications and customer requirements.
The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in driving operational excellence, continuous improvement and sustainability across the business, while ensuring the organisation remains compliant, competitive and prepared for evolving regulatory and environmental requirements.
The Role
Reporting directly to the Operations Director, you will take ownership of the Company's IMS, maintaining ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and FSC certifications while leading Health & Safety compliance, internal and external audits, environmental initiatives and ESG programmes.
You will work closely with internal teams, customers and suppliers, providing expert guidance on compliance, responsible sourcing, sustainability and regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities

Manage, maintain and continually improve the Company's Integrated Management System.

Ensure ongoing compliance with ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and FSC standards.

Plan and conduct internal audits and coordinate external certification audits.

Ensure corrective and preventative actions are effectively implemented and evidenced.

Drive a culture of quality, continuous improvement and root cause analysis.

Lead the Company's Health & Safety programme, ensuring compliance with UK legislation.

Complete and oversee risk assessments, COSHH assessments, workplace inspections and incident investigations.

Manage environmental compliance and identify opportunities to reduce waste, energy consumption and environmental impact.

Lead ESG and sustainability activities, including sustainability reporting and carbon reduction initiatives.

Manage customer sustainability programmes and maintain information across external sustainability platforms.

Support customer and supplier compliance requirements, including certifications, ESG documentation, ethical sourcing and environmental information.

Monitor legislative and regulatory developments, including FSC, EUDR and PPWR, and implement changes where required.

Coordinate supplier compliance information covering paper source verification, species declarations, supply chain mapping, packaging compliance and responsible sourcing.

Investigate customer complaints, Health & Safety incidents and environmental events, ensuring robust corrective actions are implemented.

Maintain policies, procedures, registers, audit records and management reports.

Coordinate the annual Integrated Management Review.

Undertake any other duties reasonably required within the scope of the role.
About You
We are looking for an experienced QHSE professional with a strong background in integrated management systems, auditing, Health & Safety, environmental compliance and sustainability.
You will ideally have:

Proven experience managing ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 management systems.

Awareness of ISO 27001.

Knowledge of HSG65 and ISO 45001 principles.

Extensive knowledge of FSC Chain of Custody standards.

Experience planning and leading internal and external audits.

IRCA Internal or Lead Auditor qualification, or equivalent.

NEBOSH General Certificate or equivalent Health & Safety qualification.

Strong knowledge of UK Health & Safety and Environmental legislation.

Experience maintaining and improving Integrated Management Systems.

Experience with risk assessments, COSHH assessments and incident investigations.

Strong understanding of ESG reporting and sustainability initiatives.

Experience with platforms such as EcoVadis, Sedex, M2030/Secaro and customer sustainability portals.

Knowledge of EUDR, PPWR and responsible sourcing legislation.

Excellent report writing, analytical and root cause investigation skills.

Strong Microsoft Office and data management skills.

Experience within a manufacturing or print environment would be advantageous.
