Assistant Transport Manager

Location: Barnsley, S75
Salary: £32,718.40 per annum (non-negotiable)
Hours: 40 hours per week
Working Pattern:

  • Monday – Thursday: 9:00am – 5:30pm
  • Friday: 9:30am – 6:00pm

Contract: Temporary to Permanent

About the Role

We are looking for a motivated and organised Assistant Transport Manager to join our clients transport team. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with logistics or traffic experience who is looking to develop their career within a fast-paced transport operation.

Working closely with the Transport Manager, you will play a key role in ensuring the smooth day-to-day running of the transport function, supporting driver compliance, maintaining excellent customer service standards, and ensuring all operational processes are followed.

You will also be confident in stepping into the Transport Manager's responsibilities during periods of annual leave, ensuring continuity of service and operational efficiency.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the Transport Manager with the completion of daily driver pre-briefs and de-briefs.
  • Promote and maintain high standards of customer service across the transport operation.
  • Ensure driver compliance with all company policies, procedures, and operational processes.
  • Provide operational support and carry out Transport Manager duties during periods of holiday or absence.
  • Liaise extensively with external service providers to ensure full compliance for both vehicles and drivers.
  • Assist in maintaining a safe, efficient, and compliant transport operation.

Knowledge, Skills & Experience

We are looking for someone who has:

  • Good geographical knowledge.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Previous experience within a traffic, transport, or logistics environment (preferred).
  • Excellent IT skills, with a high level of competence using Microsoft Excel.
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to prioritise workloads effectively.
  • A proactive approach with excellent attention to detail.
