Shift Pattern:

  • Monday to Wednesday: 1:30pm – 11:30pm

  • Thursday: 1:30pm – 11:00pm

The Role

Our client is seeking a skilled CNC Machinist Setter Operator / Conventional Machinist to join their Production team on a permanent PM shift.

In this hands-on role, you'll be responsible for programming, setting and operating CNC machining centres, alongside conventional machining using manual mills and lathes. You'll manufacture precision components to exacting standards while maintaining quality, efficiency and safety throughout the production process.

Reporting to the PM Production Supervisor, you'll work closely with colleagues across Production, Engineering and Quality and be fully supported by an experienced team.

Key Responsibilities

CNC Machining

  • Program CNC machines using G-code or CAM software (Siemens, EdgeCAM or similar).

  • Set up and operate CNC machining centres.

  • Read and interpret engineering drawings and technical specifications.

  • Select appropriate tooling, cutting speeds and feeds for a range of materials.

  • Carry out first-off inspections and in-process quality checks.

  • Adjust machine programs and offsets to maintain dimensional accuracy.

Manual Machining

  • Operate conventional lathes, milling machines and drilling machines.

  • Manufacture one-off and low-volume precision components.

  • Deburr and finish machined parts to specification.

General Responsibilities

  • Maintain a clean, organised and safe working environment.

  • Complete job cards and production documentation accurately.

  • Work collaboratively with Engineering and Quality teams to resolve manufacturing issues.

  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives across the department.

About You

You'll have a minimum of 2 years' experience working within a manufacturing environment and be confident working both independently and as part of a team.

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Proven experience programming, setting and operating CNC machinery.

  • Strong manual machining experience.

  • Ability to read and interpret complex engineering drawings.

  • Good understanding of geometric tolerancing and surface finish requirements.

  • Experience machining a variety of materials including stainless steel, mild steel and aluminium.

  • Excellent attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality work.

  • Self-motivated with strong problem-solving skills.

  • Flexible, adaptable and able to prioritise workloads.

  • Good communication and teamwork skills.

Desirable

  • Experience using Fanuc, Siemens or EdgeCAM controls.

  • Apprenticeship or NVQ Level 3 in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent).

  • Experience within a low-volume, high-precision manufacturing environment.
