CNC Turner – Programmer / Setter / Operator
Location: Liverpool
Salary: £17.26 – £18.45 per hour (£35,000 – £37,500 basic)
Potential Earnings: Up to £45,000 – £48,000 with overtime
Hours: 39 hours per week + overtime available
Shift: Days – Monday to Thursday 7:30am–4:30pm, Friday 7:30am–12:30pm
An established and well-respected precision engineering subcontractor is seeking an experienced CNC Turner – Programmer / Setter / Operator to join their Large CNC Turning Cell at their Liverpool facility. The company specialises in the manufacture of one-off and small batch components, supplying critical industries including nuclear, defence, oil & gas, fluid handling and power generation.
This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled machinist who enjoys working on complex components and varied projects, with a high level of autonomy in programming, tooling selection and machining.
The Role
The successful candidate will be responsible for programming, setting and operating advanced CNC lathes to machine large shafts and precision components from a range of specialist steel grades.
Key responsibilities include:

Programming, setting and operating CNC lathes with Fanuc controls

Selecting tooling and developing machining processes

Machining shafts up to 3.2 metres in length

Working from detailed engineering drawings

Machining a range of materials including exotic alloys

Operating machines with live tooling, programmable steadies, and C & Y axis capability

Maintaining high standards in line with ISO 9001:2015 quality systems

Communicating effectively with production teams and management
Candidate Requirements
Essential:
-
NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in Engineering / Machining
-
Proven experience programming, setting and operating CNC lathes
-
Experience with Fanuc control systems

Ability to interpret engineering drawings
-
Previous experience in a similar role (minimum 2 years)

Experience machining exotic metals such as Super Duplex, Duplex, Inconel 718, X750, Hastelloy or Monel

Strong attention to detail and organisational skills

Good communication and teamwork abilities
Desirable (not essential):

Experience with Doosan CNC lathes (8”–30” chucks, up to 3.2m capacity)

Manual Guide programming

Experience using CNC programming software

C & Y axis programming and machining

Experience using programmable steadies

Manufacturing valve or pump components

Experience working in nuclear, defence, oil & gas or power generation sectors

Familiarity with ERP systems and Microsoft Office 365
