Job Title: Design Engineer 

Location: Clevedon

Salary: £55,000 per annum 

We are currently recruiting for a design team lead engineer for a market leader within their industry based in Clevedon. As a design team lead engineer you will oversee the day-to-day activities of the Design team, fostering collaboration across departments, and driving the development of cutting-edge electronic power and control circuits. This is an exciting opportunity for a hands-on engineer who wants to lead, influence, and grow within a dynamic organization committed to employee ownership and core values.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and coordinate the Design team, including sprint planning, daily standups, and project management.
  • Develop and support power and control circuits (digital and analogue), from concept to manufacturing.
  • Collaborate closely with other departments to ensure successful product development and delivery.
  • Prepare and present design proposals, solutions, and technical reports at review meetings.
  • Provide technical guidance, mentorship, and training to team members.
  • Drive new product development, including research, schematic and PCB layout, simulation, and verification.
  • Manage component selection considering obsolescence, cost, and availability.
  • Oversee product life cycle activities: from schematic design, layout, testing, approval, to delivery.
  • Lead firmware and software development for current and future charge control products, applying new technologies to futureproof solutions.

What We’re Looking For: 

  • Degree in Power Electronics, Embedded Electronics, Embedded Systems, or a related field.
  • Proven experience in hardware system design, schematic capture, and PCB layout (OrCad preferred).
  • Proficiency with electrical test equipment (oscilloscopes, DMM, PSU, load banks, etc.).
  • Strong analytical and fault-finding skills.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and team management skills.

Qualifications / Knowledge:

  • Degree in relevant engineering discipline 
  • Experience with hardware design, PCB layout, and electronic testing 
  • Knowledge of embedded systems and software development (an advantage) 
  • Familiarity with industry standards and regulatory requirements
