Vacancy: Design Engineer

Location: Wellingborough

We are working in partnership with our client based near Wellingborough who are seeking a Design Engineer to join their team. As Design Engineer you will perform a variety of design / drafting activities, including preparing and updating drawings for projects, sub-assemblies and manufacturing drawings, managing workload according to deadlines and planned time scales. Developing new products and working on value added value engineering projects.


  • Producing fabrication drawings and bills of materials accurately and promptly.

  • Conceiving, designing, developing and handing over new products from concept to production in support of business development strategy.

  • Developing improvements to existing products to meet continuous improvement objectives, using lean and Kaizan principles.

  • Provide technical support for Sales

  • Revise and update existing drawings reflecting design changes ensuring consistent documentation of the project

  • Liaising with customers by telephone and e-mail correspondence with regards to drawings and approvals

  • Update corrective actions highlighted  on  the company CAR register

  • To produce drawings with the aim to make the production process as simple and cost effective as possible

  • Assisting the Group Director of Engineering in new and value added & value engineering projects

  • Verifying designs using methods such as FEA & proven engineering calculations

  • Compiling reports summarising design decisions & verification

  • Creating & filing design guides and operating procedures

  • Producing product data & drawings / images to support sales & marketing material

This role requires an experienced CAD Technician with proven experience in the organisation’s relevant field. As such, you will require; 

  • Experience of working with 3D design software (Autocad 2012 and Solidworks 3D)

  • Experience of working with Microsoft software packages (Word, Excel, outlook etc)

  • Structural engineering, fabrication and welding knowledge

  • Formal qualification (ONC/HNC/Diploma)
