A market leader in the education sector is looking to recruit an experienced Automation Tester to join our Transition Team. Quality is vitally important in this area, and the successful applicant will have at least 4 years automated testing experience in a Microsoft environment working within the full test life cycle. Extensive knowledge of automated testing tools is also required including: Selenium Web Driver and Protractor.
Successful candidates will come from a technical background, having worked within the IT sector delivering software products. You will also report to the Test Strategy Manager in the clients head office near Bradford.
This is a hands-on automation testing role, and you will suggest ways of building in quality in all areas of the production process. This is a dynamic and varied role that requires an individual who will take ownership of technical testing against requirements of the organisations products.
Key roles and responsibilities:
Ensure that a highly robust approach is taken to testing to ensure our software products are fit for purpose upon release to clients and work in a test driven environment and be required to deliver quality software.
Strong automation test skills with an ability to write code having obtained basic programming experience and be able to hit the ground running, with at least 4 years commercial experience as an Automation Tester.
Prepare test plans, specifications, procedures and controls to provide a structured approach to testing and the reports of testing outcomes
Produce documentation and test scripts from functional and technical specifications, and ensure these are followed at the correct stage in the project plan / testing life cycle
Conduct automated testing; functionality testing; regression testing; multiple platform testing; some manual systems testing re visual checks; utilise defect tracking systems and ensure re-testing occurs
Work with colleagues on product testing processes: plan and prepare rigorous, formal, visible and repeatable tests that will fully exercise software in the development of quality systems
Responsible for automation testing and utilising appropriate testing tools: must have a strong understanding of Selenium or Visual Studio coded UI tests
Utilise experience of automation in a Flash / Flex environment
Learn and apply different testing approaches (black-box, white-box, static and dynamic) to all stages of software development
Ensure that sufficient integration testing takes place; utilise knowledge of testing web services and validating against xml schemas
Carry out sufficient resilience testing - increase testing of the larger infrastructures that BTL is deploying to, e.g. switch a server off and does it still work etc
Investigate and set up automated builds and ensure a consistent approach is applied to the testing of products
Identify and report system defects that are detected during the testing activity
Review user stories to assist in the planning of testing, and to raise issues and propose solutions
Contribute to the identification of danger points during the course of the release cycle and liaise across departments to proactively ensure all products are fit for operation in a live environment
Utilise knowledge of Windows and Web Applications written in .NET platform
Utilise knowledge of security testing
Ensure that testing processes are robust and quality standards for products are maintained - conduct interim release reviews and advise on unit test coverage and the adequacy of technical tests
Work with testers from scrum teams to help train them and pass on knowledge / expertise on automation testing
